Staff Selection Commission India conducts an examination for SSC CGL 2016 which is called Combined Graduate Level Examination. This SSC CGL exam is held to fill the posts of Assistant , Inspector of Income tax , Inspector ( central excise ) , Inspector ( preventive officer ) , Inspector ( examine ) , Assistant Enforcement Officer , Sub Inspector Auditor , Divisional Accountant , Clerk. These post are for the Departments , Ministries , Offices and Cadres of Indian Government. The scheme of the exam consists three tiers as indicated below :
- Tier -I — Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
- Tier -II — Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
- Tier –III — Personality Test cum Interview/Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/Document Verification
This written exam is followed by a physical test.
The Commission reserves the right to make changes in the scheme of examination such as conduct of Tier-I and Tier-II examination in on-line mode, treating Tier-I examination as only qualifying and not conducting personality test cum interview for some or all posts .

1 Statistical Investigator Grade – II Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at 12th standard level
OR
Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level
2 Compiler : Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or Elective subject.
3 Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level for all other posts.

General Awareness:
Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.

The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. Paper 2 (English Language & Compression): Questions in this components will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/detecting mis-spelt words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.
Paper 3 ( Statistics): Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation & Compiler in RGI.
Measures of Central Tendency , Measures of Dispersion , Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis , Correlation and Regression , Probability Theory , Random Variable and Probability Distributions , Sampling Theory , Statistical Inference , Analysis of Variance , Time Series Analysis , Index Numbers.
Paper 3 is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler.
Personality Test / Interview
For posts for which Interview cum Personality Test is prescribed, the Personality Test/ interview will carry a maximum of 100 marks.
Skill Test : For the post of Tax Assistant ( Central excise & income tax )
Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) at 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression per hour on computer.
Document Verification : Document verification is required for all the candidates at the time of document verification.
SSC CGL selection process : After written examination / Physical Efficiency Test / Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test / Document Verification the commission will draw up All India Merit list for each category of post.
